Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 12:26AM Hell has frozen over. YouTube is actually showing some semblance of decency.
You can still find all the Columbine tributes and bomb making instructions you want though.
Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:38AM Two men who filmed themselves attacking a man in a Glasgow street before posting the video on YouTube have each been jailed for two years.
Ryan Currie, 19, and Frank Tominey, 21, admitted attacking James Lavery, 31, in the Easterhouse area in August 2009.
Even in Scotland criminals are idiot enough to incrimnate themselves on YouTube. That may be YouTube's only redeeming quality

Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 3:54AM Teen faces a judge for threatening to kill classmates:
I originally posted about the 15-year-old mutant from South Carolina here.
The one thing I wanted to address at this section of the site was the fact that he allegedly got his figurative rocks off by watching YouTube videos about Columbine and Virginia Tech. Since it's YouTube and a mutant I am going to assume that these weren't documentary type videos but rather the so many 'tribute' videos that litter YouTube. He also allegedly had a video from YouTube on how to make black powder as well.
Again I can hear YouTube hiding behind the first amendment claiming freedom of speech however I am of the belief that freedom is not just a right it's also a responsibility.
YouTube will also claim that its users police the site and recommend videos for removal. However the IQ of the typical YouTube aficionado is below room temperature and these are the kid of videos they crave.
There's already been a few school shooters that declared their intentions on YouTube. Where was the self policing then?
And again this comes from a company, Google, that until recently was in cahoots with the Chinese government assisting them with helping to censor the internet for an entire country of a few billion. A little policing on YouTube would not be out of their capabilities.
Monday, December 28, 2009 at 1:59AM Story points to potential social networking dangers:
I originally posted about Robert Harris and his craigslist prostitution ring that used craigslist and pimped out underage girls here and here on the CraigsCrimeList section of the site. However not only did Harris use craigslist to pimp out these girls but the ring allegedly used MySpace and YouTube as well.
I am going to give MySpace a pass on this one for now because I want to focus mainly on YouTube because my issue with craigslist is also my issue with YouTube.
I can only imagine what the videos on YouTube must have contained but I am sure they were advertising these girls that they were forcing to turn tricks on YouTube. I'm also sure that the video was probably borderline illegal if not just plain illegal. Much like craigslist YouTube depends on its users to police the content. Like I've said many times about YouTube and craigslist user policing doesn't work. The people looking for this kind of content aren't going to report it and the people who would report it aren't looking for it.
If people were using a site I owned to promote child prostitution I would take the necessary measures to make sure it didn't happen again. Obviously YouTube and by way of ownership Google don't care if child prostitution is happening on their site as long as the money keeps rolling in.

Two jailed for YouTube song threat:
Two alleged rappers from the UK, Ishmael McLean, 22, and Rowan Simon, 18, were found guilty of trying to pervert the course of justice by posting a rap video on YouTube threatening the witnesses of a murder. In US terms they were found guilty of witness intimidation.
The rap entitled "Wrong Team" threatened bthe witnesses of the murder of 24-year-old Jason Johnson last year.
They claimed it was just a rap but thankfully the courts didn't buy it.
McLean was jailed for five years on Friday, including a year for having three bullets hidden in a shoebox, while Simon was imprisoned for two-and-a-half years.
I'm pretty sure that in the UK it works the same as the US that threats are not a protected form of speech.
Friday, November 27, 2009 at 1:47AM YouTube rappers charged with threatening police, New Bedford probation officer:
Police in New Bedford, Mass. arrested 24-year-old Matthew Rufino and 28-year-old Jason Foley for posting their rap on YouTube that threatened local police and a probation officer which I'm going to assume was one of theirs.
The four-minute video was posted to YouTube on Nov. 1 and has been watched about 2,000 times. Called “WATCH 4 ME,” it includes members of the rap group bragging about making America’s Most Wanted, images of smashed police cars, warnings of violence against police and derogatory statements made about police. Background noises include sirens and gunshots.
Cry free speech all you want but public threats aren't a protected form of speech.

Teens Busted for YouTube Beat Down:
All 4 suspects in Pompano Beach beating now held:
19-year-old William Sleight recorded his three idiot friends, Brandon Edwards, 19, Nicholas Bakum, 19, and Bradley Wunderlich, 21, roughing up a homeless guy at Pompano Beach, Florida. Being the idiots they are they posted the video to YouTube. This led to their arrests this past week.
The thing is this attack took place in 2008 and wasn't removed from YouTube until this week. Police found it by accident while investigating another crime that was posted to YouTube.
This shows me two things. The first is that this shows the mentality of the typical YouTube fan. The second is that apparently YouTube's leting the users police the content obviously doesn't work.

Online video tip leads to Middletown man's arrest:
That stereotype of a New Jersey douchebag over there is barely 21-year-old Gary Wolchesky of Middletown, New Jersey. He may just be the stupidest criminal in New Jersey.
He allegedly went on YouTube bragging about how much of a pedophile he is. He used such screen names as PEDOTeenTech, GaryGodx, MyIDisPhat, MyIDisCool, TeenTech and Genetic Supremacy. He also claimed that he used Xbox Live and YouTube to find his victims.
This led police to search his home where they allegedly found a cache of child porn.
And yet the most he's looking at is 18 months in the state pen. This brought to you by the state that produced Jesse Timendiquas. Way to go Jersey, once again making me ashamed of the state I grew up in.
Surprisingly YouTube has actually pulled the videos.
